Wonder why you’re obsessing all the time, even though you work hard to maintain mental focus? Or do you promise yourself you’ll stop compulsive “habits,” but can’t seem to follow through?
Are you struggling with intense confusion, chronic tension and worry, intrusive thoughts, irrational fears, and doubts about your mental health? The fact is you may be suffering from an Anxiety Disorder. You are not alone. There are many faces and voices to this disorder AND there is relief from the symptoms and behaviors that disrupt your daily life.
Anxiety Disorders are the most common of emotional disorders and affect more than 25 million Americans. The term “anxiety disorder” refers to generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), pediatric obsessive compulsive disorder (POCD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder (also called social phobia), specific phobias, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Anxiety Disorders can be debilitating and are often misdiagnosed. In addition, the behaviors may cause you to feel an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations and interfere with daily functioning.
When you finally decide to look for help, it’s CRISIS time and you want to know you’ve found someone who is down to earth, effective, direct, warm, and helpful. I’m a therapist who “Get’s It” and who has the education and experience to work with your issues. I love helping my clients overcome their compulsive behaviors, develop effective tools to manage their stress, and challenge their negative beliefs about who they are in the world.
There is relief and you can learn to do things differently. With an integration of complimentary approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Exposure Response Prevention (E/RP),I tailor treatment to that which is most relevant to your situation. Together we will explore the reasons you developed your behaviors, alternate ways to manage distress, and cultivate awareness so that you have more freedom and control in your life.
Working with a psychotherapist with whom you feel comfortable and who possesses the needed knowledge and experience in E/RP is vitally important to help you establish a solid foundation in the process of your recovery. I have received advanced training in the treatment of OCD and Pediatic OCD from the Behavioral Training Institute in San Diego, CA, and am an active member of the International OCD Foundation, in Boston, MA.
